Lately I've been drinking every night after work, and even though I still show up, do my work and do things at home, I feel like something is wrong. My partner has said I drink too much, but I don't feel like it's “that bad” as I'm functioning normally. At what point does it become a real problem? Has anyone else gone through this and gained clarity?

Many people like you can function normally, have a stable job, still take care of their family, or is playing Geometry Dash Lite but still struggling with daily drinking. This is often referred to as “functional alcohol use” – meaning the drinker is still “functional,” but is developing an emotional and habitual dependence on alcohol.
Yes, I've been there. For years, I convinced myself that because I was meeting deadlines and paying bills, my drinking wasn't serious. But that's the danger of high-functioning alcoholism - it masks the damage until things really fall apart. I highly recommend reading this: https://genesishouse.net/blog/functioning-alcoholism/. It helped me recognize patterns that I had been ignoring. Just because you are “functioning” doesn't mean you are thriving. Being honest with yourself is a powerful first step.
